ABOUT ABOUT

Last year, Winnipeg Connect was approached by some folks connected with Asperger Manitoba about running an event exclusively for those who are on the spectrum, recognizing that there can be challenges in neurotypical and neurodivergent dating experiences. After much conversation and deliberation about what this could look like, we have decided to host an event that will allow us to mentor someone from Asperger Manitoba, should they want to keep holding future events for those in this community. We would love to be able to carry on with more spectrum specific events, yet our initiative is simply too small and not able to target every community that would want to be represented - and so this is the best we can do at this time.

We want safe spaces for all people to come and connect in ways that are meaningful. And are honored to be a part of facilitating this for those who identify as being on the spectrum. Please know that Winnipeg Connect does not adhere to a medical model of ASD. You do not need a diagnosis, or any sort of formal confirmation in order to participate in this event. If you find resonance in the autistic community, you are welcome to attend.

This is a high-structure mingle that will be run in a format that parallels our speed friending events, however, this event will have a match sheet so that you may select those you're interested in future connection with. Only those who both select yes to each other will receive contact info after the event via email.

Participants will have structured conversation around a shared question in a small group format, and will be switching seats throughout the event so that all those in the room have a chance to meet each other for a short conversation. At the end of the event, match sheets are handed in and emails with matches will be sent out within 24-48 hours.

At all our events, we aim for kindness and mutual respect as goals - that we might practice being in shared space, being human, together. Consider joining us!

As this is the first event of this kind, we aren't really sure how the numbers will shake out. Please be advised that if we do not have equitable numbers in both the guys and gals category that the event will not be run and refunds will be provided.
